Sports injuries: back on the field, safely.

Whether it's a sprain, strain or overuse injury, the goal is the same: get you back to sport safely, and reduce the chance it happens again.

  • Overuse and repetitive strain injuries

Assessment, then a plan

Every injury gets a proper look, not just at what's damaged, but why it happened. That might be how much you've been training, an old weakness in a muscle, or the way you move during your sport. Fixing only the sore spot without fixing the reason it happened is how the same injury keeps coming back. Treatment addresses both, so getting back to sport is safer and lasts longer this time.

Overuse injuries that build up slowly, like a sore Achilles or a painful elbow from repeated strain, are what doctors call tendinopathy: the tendon hasn't torn, but it's become irritated and weaker from repeated load without enough recovery time. In Traditional Chinese Medicine this kind of slow-building, nagging pain often reflects Qi and Blood Stasis in the area, where circulation has become sluggish rather than flowing freely. Acupuncture helps get that circulation moving again, working alongside hands-on therapy and graded exercise to rebuild the tendon's strength.

  1. Physiotherapy

Manual therapy, targeted exercise and hands-on treatment for the injury itself.

  2. Clinical Pilates

Rebuilding strength, control and stability through supervised, graded exercise.

  3. Acupuncture

Pain relief and improved circulation to support recovery.

Wondering whether a regular studio class would do the same job as supervised rehabilitation? See clinical Pilates vs regular Pilates. If you have been offered dry needling for a tight or overloaded muscle, acupuncture vs dry needling explains how the two differ.

Patient story

A patient came in years after an old ankle ligament injury, with new swelling and tingling that had developed in the toes. Acupuncture eased the immediate symptoms, but the lasting fix came from identifying that the old injury had left the foot loading unevenly. Custom orthotics corrected the imbalance, and the tingling resolved completely.

Our belief

You play a vital role in your own recovery. The earlier you seek treatment, the quicker you get back to sport.

Good questions

Injuries can be as stressful mentally as they are physically. Here's what to expect.

Related conditions

Not sure if this is the right fit? These might be closer.

Will I have to stop playing sport completely?

Rarely a full stop. Most plans keep you moving in some capacity while protecting the injury, with a graded return to full training.

Is it too late if I've had this injury for a while?

No, it's never too late to start treating an injury properly, even long-standing ones respond well to the right plan.

How long until I'm back training?

It depends on the injury, but we'll give you a realistic timeline after assessment, along with what you can safely do in the meantime.

Do I need a doctor's referral?

No, you can book directly. A referral is only required for WorkCover, Veterans' Affairs, CTP or a Medicare chronic condition management plan.

Can I claim on my private health fund?

In most cases, yes. The clinic is registered with all major health funds for physiotherapy, acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, so most policies allow you to claim on the spot through HICAPS and just pay the gap. Check with your fund to confirm your level of cover.

When does a sports injury need urgent care instead of physio?

A joint that looks visibly out of place, an inability to bear any weight at all, or a suspected fracture needs urgent medical assessment first. For sprains, strains, overuse injuries and most soft tissue injuries, physiotherapy is appropriate first-line care and the sooner it starts, the better.
